A weekend on the farm

Last weekend (6 June), I went with the man to a friend’s family farm outside of Montagu for her birthday weekend celebration. We lost cell phone signal about 80km from the farm, and the weekend was spent with blissfully silent cell phones. I had to go down to the main house on Saturday evening to use the Telkom line to call Aurora 🙂

The weekend was spent roaming around the farm, drinking brandy and coke (I’ve never!), fire, music, off-road adventures with the bakkies (trucks), and of course farm animals! We even managed to catch the Springbok rugby game on DTSV on Saturday evening at the main house (brandy and coke in hand – I’ve never!) ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

As much as I enjoyed the getaway, I really, really appreciated the hot running water when we got home 🙂

It sounded absolutely blissful but couldn’t live without hot running water- especially not in winter. I love the dog!

There was hot water, but the water was pumped from the bottom of the hill to the top into a massive tank. Water took a gen to heat up, and then was just a trickle at best, and then it would suddenly just stop flowing competent because of an air pocket or something, so we’d have to wait to get a bit of water again. With about 13 people it was a bit tricky to find the right time to hog the bathroom 🙂
