This morning Aurora and I took a drive out to Polkadraai Farm in Stellenbosch to pick fresh strawberries straight out the field. It was a fun little outing and something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time, but by the time I decide to get around to doing it, the season is over and we have to wait again until the end of the year.
It is end of season, so we were warned that we may have to look a bit harder for the strawberries, but they would be there. We walked down to one of the bottom rows (the top rows tend to get picked clean early on), and got started. The strawberries were most definitely still available – ripe, red, and sweet! I now have 2 small buckets of strawberries, which I think will keep us busy for a couple of days.
Once we were done (and it really only takes a few minutes to fill a small bucket), we walked around the field for a bit, inspecting the various scarecrows (Vogelscheuche in German as Aurora tried to teach me – and I had to google that and don’t ask me to pronounce it), took some photos and had one of their delicious waffles with strawberries and ice cream! Absolutely YUM!!!
All in all it’s a good, fun, affordable morning out for the family, and we’ll definitely make a plan to visit more often in the new season.
So, Daiquiri anyone? 😉 You can find Polkadraai’s Daiquiri recipe here. ENJOY!
